Dear Mayor Newsom,
You have done a great thing in allowing gay and lesbian couples to exercise their civil right to marry. History will praise you. However I may have felt about you and your positions before your election, I will now stand behind you and praise your performance as mayor of San Francisco. You have proved yourself to be a thoughtful and just leader and I wish you many years of uniting the citizenry for the common good.
Best wishes,
Cody Sisco
Posted by cbsisco at February 20, 2004 12:28 AMi tried to get michele to marry me, but she was having none of it. also, do i really want a wedding with five thousand strangers? heck no.
still, go newsome. i loved yesterday's chron headline, which was something like: president is bothered by gay marriages. it's fun to bother the president.
Posted by: didofoot at February 20, 2004 09:07 AMMany thanks for the post. I've been meaning to write a similar letter, but bronchitis has been keeping me from all things that involve fun. Including cementhorizon.
big ups for the Newsom shout out!
Posted by: Jolie at February 20, 2004 11:40 AMPeople keep asking me if Ash and I are getting married. Do you and Jay ever casually talk about that stuff?
Posted by: robyn at February 20, 2004 01:36 PMrobyn - we had never talked about it until newsom made the announcement. during the initial excitement we were seriously considering it, but the thought of a wedding with friends and family there witnessing it freaked me out. and there are committment issues. we're committed to each other, but i don't think either of us is prepared to promise it'll stay that way for the rest of our lives.
the question does seem to pop up a lot lately.
didofoot - i loved that headline too! a finger in the eye for President G. W. Hatred!
