There is a columnist in the San Francisco Chronicle who thinks that liberals have taken over San Francisco State University.
Darlin', we've been there for years.
In her recent column about the proposed dissolution of the school's College of Engineering, Debra J. Saunders berated the Urban Studies Department, from which I graduated in 2003. I submitted my response to the editors of the San Francisco Chronicle, and I have copied it here for your enjoyment.
As a recent graduate of San Francisco State Universitys Urban Studies department, I was pleased to read Debra J. Saunders commentary Social Engineering 101. Her column berated the social sciences and other soft subjects, calling them inferior to the study of engineering, physics and other subjects that use lots of numbers. Not understanding numbers very well myself, I share with her a great respect for people who do.
I was disappointed that she did not label journalism as one of the expendable areas of study. Clearly, a subject that encourages students to hastily write stories on tight deadlines about the complicated world around them deprives us all of a fair and balanced understanding of, for example, California politics, the budget process and the higher education system.
Ms. Saunders should spend less time lauding one area of study over another, and more time considering if cuts in education are really a wise course of action.
Sincerely,
Cody Sisco
Preach on brotha man!!! Don't even get me started on cutting arts funding.
Posted by: Clint at April 9, 2004 05:46 AMWhoa, insult a man's major and the claws come out! I love it: scathing, sarcastic and right up in that bitch's face! I hope they publish it.
Posted by: Kristina at April 9, 2004 10:45 AMIt looks like they won't publish it after all. Condaleeza is stealing my glory! The letters to the editor page is full of reactions to her "performance."
Why are all the papers running huge pictures of her?? Could it be a remarkable resemblance to....hmmmmmmmm, SATAN!!?!
